Top Ten Songs To Read To

This week's theme is related to audio and music. I could have made a list of favorite audiobooks, but I haven't really listened to that many. I could also have listed my favorite songs or bands. But I decided to make a list of my favorite songs to listen to while reading. Of course, this is my current favorites list. Come back in a few months and this list might be entirely different. So here they are, in no particular order:

Love Me Like You Do

Ellie Goulding

The passionate lyrics and music make this one perfect for those emotional love scenes. I can just see my favorite characters running into each other's arms while this songs is playing in the background.

Bleeding Love

Leona Lewis

Yet another emotional song, but this one is for all of the heartbreaking moments when our couple is ripped apart for any number of reasons. It is such a painfully gorgeous song.

Madness

Muse

Sometimes crazy things happen in our stories and this song perfectly fits just about every one of those moments when a love goes horribly and insanely wrong.

Dare You To Move

Switchfoot

One of my absolute favorite songs to listen to, at any time. This song can fit alongside every single angsty romance relationship ever written about, where we are impatiently waiting for the guy or girl to make a move.

This Woman's Work

Maxwell

This is my number one favorite song of all time. And this is my favorite rendition of it. Skip to 30 seconds in, if you want to skip over the talking. Just the beginning of this song soothes my soul. The heartbreak fits so many scenes and this song has been used in soundtracks and on So You Think You Can Dance.

I went through a metal phase in high school, that I still come back to from time to time. This song is about pain and suffering, something that our leading ladies often experience as they journey through their stories. YA female characters who think they aren't good enough for the guy, especially.

Here With Me

Dido

Play this song when you're reading about a character who is pining for their long lost love. If you read my Top Ten Shows I Miss post, you would already know that this song is from Roswell and that I absolutely love it!

It's Getting Better All The Time

Brooks & Dunn

I listen to a lot of country, so it's actually harder to list favorites of that genre because I have so many. But this song I like to listen to when a character is getting over someone and they come face to face with their ex. Sometimes, you need to remind yourself that you're moving on and will survive the heartbreak.

No Air

Jordin Sparks & Chris Brown

A beautifully emotional song that perfectly expresses the struggle book characters go through when they can't be with the one they love, for any reason. Even the video is emotionally charged.

And finally...
The mother of all love songs...

Take My Breath Away

Berlin

I didn't watch Top Gun until I was an adult, but I fell in love with this song long before that. It just screams love and emotion and the intense longing that happens in nearly every love story out there. It will enhance your reading, every single time. I guarantee it.

I have an entire list of reading songs that include: Lana Del Rey, Taking Back Sunday, Faith Hill, Katy Perry, Green Day, and so many more. I might make another and more cohesive list, later on!

Top Ten Tuesday: TV Shows That I Miss

Top Ten TV Shows That I Miss

This should be an easy one since I made a list not too long ago for a #TvShowsThatIMiss hashtag on Twitter. Here they are, again!

Legend of the Seeker Based on Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth novels (which I started reading in high school), this series was cut way too short. I have signed every petition I have come across to get it picked up by another network, but alas, it seems that the seeker's days are over, unless they turn this series into a film.	Star-Crossed Another series that was cut short, this CW show didn't even get a good send-off. It was a sci-fi show about an alien race's attempt to integrate with human society. I can still (for now) watch the single season on Netflix but it may never get the ending it deserves. It is not based off of a book, unfortunately.	Dallas Unlike many re-boots, this show had several recurring cast members and a few amazing new ones. I never missed an episode. Even after JD's death (in life and in the show), I thought the story-line was still strong. However, someone along the way must have disagreed because they chose not to renew.
The O.C. Things just never were the same after the death of Marissa. But before that, this show was one of my obsessions. It was actually one of the first shows I really got into, watching every week, religiously. I still miss my goofy-adorable Seth. :(	The Secret Circle The Secret Circle barely got its feet on the ground before it was ripped out from under it. The suspense reached an all-time peak and then suddenly it was cancelled. This one probably disappoints me the most. We got absolutely no real conclusion, whatsoever.	Roswell *sigh* When I need a heartbreak fix, I go watch the last episode of the first season, the scene with Dido's "Here With Me" playing as Liz walks away from Max. By the way, that song is in my top 10 favorites. It's hauntingly beautiful.
That 70's Show Oh, how I miss this show! Every single character, too. Even Red. I watch often and like that just about every actor has gone on to have great and well-deserved careers. One note: Ashton Kutcher is joined by Danny Masterson in The Ranch on Netflix which is an awesome show! Just FYI. :)	Crisis This show was robbed. Absolutely robbed. It had a fantastic plot with a ton of suspense, surprises and twists, and a great cast. Yet, it was canned and I have no idea why. This could have rivaled 24. That's how good it was. But like many other shows that I fell for, this one disappeared.	Law & Order (Original) Don't get me wrong, I love SVU, even still. But there is nothing quite like the original with such a variety of plots and characters. I know all good things must end, but I still find myself watching reruns on occasion. I would bet that there are only less than 1 dozen episodes that I haven't seen.
Happy Days I love this show for several reasons: the music was awesome, the characters were hilarious and relatable, the plot was filled with life lessons that are still relevant today and I may have had a little crush on Richie. This makes me want to turn on my oldies playlist and drink a malted shake.

Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Read in Middle & High School

This will be my first Top Ten Tuesday! Each week, the hosting site declares a topic and we (the bloggers) are challenged to come up with a list of ten things within that theme. This week's topic is:

Top Ten Books I Read in Middle/High School

There were a few options to choose from this week as long as they were school related. I chose to do books I read while in school. Keep in mind, I began reading beyond my maturity before I finished middle school. That will explain the certain *ahem* adult-age books you may see.

1) My Favorite Book If I had to pick just one book, this would probably be my favorite. It isn't necessarily an earth-shattering story but it was the most memorable of my childhood. I can still visualize the little house in the side of the hill with dirt floors and the leeches in the creek.	2) The scary side of life... Even before I went through my binge-watching horror movie years as a teen, I had already experienced a few years of binge-reading horror books, too. These may not be Stephen King but for a child there is nothing scarier than finding out your neighbors are ghosts that want to kill you. Seriously. Nothing scarier.	3) Pre-teen must-reads! I had this entire series and may still have some packed up somewhere. My mother subscribed me to the books and a new one came in the mail ever so often. I fell in love with the girls (and their boy crushes) and followed their crazy antics while experiencing my own.
4) Started my obsession. I read this book in the 9th grade. My middle school-aged brother brought it home from the library and I picked it up for no good reason. I read this thing in like two days and became obsessed. I'm sure no one else can relate to that, right? *snickers*	5) A darker story, this way comes... This book really surprised me. I'm not sure why I chose to read it when browsing my high school library but I did and this series became a must-read for me. It was the first time I read about a really evil villain. One that scared the daylights out of me!	6) My regretful read. I regret reading this book! When the first LOTR movie came out, I loved it! Then I decided to read the second book in order to be prepared for the second movie. I shouldn't have. It ruined the movie for me as I found myself comparing the two. I then decided to skip the third book. I did read The Hobbit, though.
7) My first adult romance! This was my first adult romance book! My mother handed it to me and after this book, I've never looked back! It isn't my favorite of Nora's books but it still holds a special place in my heart because I had never read a love scene before this.	8) My favorite NR book! Midnight Bayou IS my favorite Nora Robert's standalone book. It's a paranormal romance due to the ghostly events and is set in the bayou (obviously). I mostly liked the Lifetime movie version of this, too, which starred Jerry O'Connell. Yum!	9) First fantasy trilogy. If I'm not mistaken, this is the first trilogy I read by Nora. It is not my favorite but I read the Circle Trilogy (my favorite) after high school, so I couldn't use it in this list. Still, this series might be my second favorite trilogy by Nora and she has a LOT of them.
10) Mother-daughter read. My mother began to read this series and couldn't stop talking about it so I just had to try it out for myself. I didn't, and still don't, usually read mystery romances. Yet, I love this series! I think I read all the way to the twelfth book before I stopped.

It's a strange combination of books, I know. I still have a lot of them on my shelves, waiting until my daughters get older so I can introduce them to my favorite books in the same way my mother did for me. Reading is a hobby we should all strive to pass along!
