Grace licked her dry lips. “Upstairs, there’s a guest room I’ve been slipping off to each night after the staff retires.”
“You have to keep up the lie even in your own home?”
“We can’t risk it.”
He brushed a finger across her lips. “Except that’s what you’re doing with me.”
She closed her eyes as the pain washed over her. “I know, but I can’t seem to stop wanting you.”
“You know how much I hate lies.”
His low growl sent shivers across her skin. “This is all I have to offer, but I’m willing to beg if need be. I need the peace being with you brings, even if
it’s only temporary.”
He kissed her palm. “At this point, I’m willing to take even a small part of you.”
She closed her eyes at the pain in his voice.
