Lesson of the day? Don't trust ancient vampires!

I should have known better than to pick up this book without clearing my schedule first. The moment I got back into the story, I just couldn't stop reading and finished the rest of the series in less than two days. While I'm sad that it's over, I couldn't be any happier about how it ended! You'll see what I mean when you read my review of the last book. But no spoilers here!

In this installment, we pick up where the story left off in book number two. Jeremy has agreed to teach Jessie how to fight and his price was steep. She had to break off her relationship with Drake. And even though she doesn't really drop Drake from her life, she doesn't entirely trust him anymore, either. So Jeremy will accompany Jessie to her upcoming meeting with the vampires. Just in case.

The aforementioned meeting with the VETOV was full of surprises and even intense heartbreak, in more ways than one. I was not prepared for how quickly the tables turned. It seemed that no one was to be trusted and Jessie faced more than one nemesis on the island.

The pacing was slow at times but I didn't mind. The calmer moments were probably my favorite as none of my beloved characters were maimed or stabbed during meal times. Well, usually...

SynopsisHiding from the VETOV, Jessie and Drake move to a small town in Alaska—home to humans, demons, and werewolves. They soon discover a serial killer is on the loose and it's a demon stealing good souls. Jessie longs to end the fiend's rampage so she can send his soul to Hell.

But finding the murderer won't be easy, especially after she bumps into a werewolf who had kidnapped and tried to kill her. Jessie reaches out to Alan, the Alpha she'd helped in Arizona. Alan and Drake work together to eliminate the threat against Jessie, but removing the werewolf may come with a steep price.

Over a roller coaster ride of events, Jessie battles for survival and her soul. Through all her struggles, she maintains a feverish love for Drake. On Christmas Eve, he presents Jessie with a surprise. Eternity never looked better for the half-demon soul catcher.

Jessie and Drake have found the one place to hide that is least likely to be visited by vampires. Yet, their luck isn't as good as they had hoped. Cold climates may not be popular for vampires, but it sure doesn't deter werewolves!

Yep, you guessed it. Gabe, our villain vampire from the past has also run away to Alaska. Coincidence or just fate? Either way, it makes Jessie's job of hiding a bit more complicated. But it also gives her the perfect opportunity to get revenge on the kidnapping werewolf who wronged her.

Drake does Jessie a favor by helping her to reunite with her best friend, Dani. We also receive a visit from the alpha werewolf, Alan, and his pack. Ryan comes to help guard Jessie and we get to reconnect with him. The reunion is far from boring as the group plots to take out Gabe.

There is also a secondary plot thread here. A demon is on the loose, killing innocent people and stealing their souls. Jessie tries to help solve the mystery and catch the killer, but it isn't easy when enemy werewolves are members of the local police department.

Dani disappointed me in her behavior but I wasn't entirely surprised since she hadn't been a great friend to Jessie in the past, either. I had just hoped to see more growth of their friendship. But as in real life, sometimes people let you down.

This book was probably my least favorite of the six. I didn't get bored by it but it did feel more like a filler book whose purpose is to move the story along to the next one. And also, it's missing Jeremy, who I think brings a certain spark to the story. Get it? Spark? Because he's a demon and can set people on fire? *snickers*

Killer demons, vengeful werewolves, and steamy bedroom scenes, galore! Four suns!

Whew! What a crazy ride!

This book kept me on the edge of my seat. I couldn't put it down. And my poor emotions were up and down with this story, too. I wanted to scream at times and pass out at others. It was exhausting but in a good way.

Jessie has been alone for over three years, bouncing around from place to place as she hides from the very vampires that seem to have taken Drake captive. Determined to rescue him, or at least know once and for all of his fate, Jessie seeks help from the demon that she rejected. Their reunion was tense, to say the least.

After striking a bargain with Jeremy, the two devise a plan to get information that will hopefully lead them to Drake. Yet, plans tend to go awry and they definitely do in this case. Jessie has no choice but to go directly to the VETOV and attempt to reason with the ancient vampires.

This book was certainly not a filler story. There is major character growth for Jessie as she learns that even her love for Drake may not be enough to save him. Jeremy also surprised me in this book. I could see his maturity from the moment he enters the story. Drake is mostly missing from the book, however, his scenes show how strongly he still cares about Jessie and what he was willing to sacrifice to save her.

Another great installment. The ending gives me a lot of hope for the next book! Four suns!

I'm in heaven right now...

It's no surprise, if you've read my other reviews of this series, that I am strongly on Team Jeremy and have been since the first book. I saw the two demons to be an inevitable pairing but I wasn't sure how long it would last. I am happy to say that it shall last forever! *fist pump into the air*

After the incident with Drake, Jessie is in a rough place. But she isn't alone. The full-blooded demon, Jeremy, is determined to keep Jessie safe and provide the life that she deserves. This doesn't come without complications, of course, as Jessie tries to heal from her wounds (physical and emotional). Trusting Jeremy with her safety is easy, but giving him her heart is entirely different.

Settling in New Mexico gives Jessie the space she needs, plenty of sunshine, and even a mystery to solve. Because we all know that our half-demon just can't sit still and do nothing! She discovers that local women are being abused and the police have practically ignored the allegations. Adamant to find justice for these women, Jessie will fight everyone that gets in her way. Even Jeremy.

Needless to say, I loved this book! The romance between Jessie and Jeremy was a slow burn and I understood why the author chose to do it this way. After such a strong coupling between Jessie and Drake, it wouldn't have made sense for Jessie to fall straight into another's arms. While I would have liked to see more action between our new couple, the sexual tension was enormous.

The ending left me satisfied. I was happy to hear that Alan had found his mate by the end of this series and I hope that Ryan, Shawn, and all of the other secondary characters get their happy endings, too. The mystery wraps up nicely and we get a glimpse of the next step in life for Jeremy and Jessie. In all, a good conclusion to a long and winding journey.

In closing...
I enjoyed this series! In all, I would give it a solid four suns with a little extra for the last book. If you like paranormal romance, this series should definitely go on your TBR. Five suns!
