Synopsis: I'm Starr Elizabeth Connor. Earth's government falsely convicted me of a crime, packed me on a ship with other female felons, and sent us to Dakon, a primitive, frozen wasteland of a planet. Why? Earth needs minerals, and Dakon is desperate for females.
But I'm no barbarian’s 'mail order bride,' even if he is super tall, muscular, and the chief of his tribe. He doesn’t want a BBW blonde, either--it's written all over his chiseled face. He'll be truly angry if he ever learns what my 'crime' was.
I am Torg. I have waited 34 rotations for a mate of my own. With this shipment, I was sure to get a fine, sturdy mate who'll bear me many daughters. Instead, I receive a small, curvy, pale-haired female who looks at me with anger and fear.
It is only when we 'kiss' that I believe things may work out between us. But I'm hearing rumors that Starr and her shipmates are law-breakers. To survive, Dakonians must obey all laws … or be exiled into the frozen wasteland. Just when I have found her, will I have to send my mate to die?
Love knows no bounds--or planetary limits!
Starr is on her way to a new planet but not of her own free will. After being convicted of a crime she wasn't guilty of, she found her sentence had changed. Instead of rotting away in prison, she was now to become a mate to one of the alien men on Dakon.
Torg has been waiting impatiently for the ship of human females to arrive. He's drawn the third pick in the lottery and will have a choice of nearly any woman among the arrivals. But a village dispute causes him to be late and when he arrives, there is only one female left. She's nothing like what he had envisioned for himself. But she's his, and that's all that matters.
Torn between her attraction to her new mate and desperation to clear her name back on Earth, Starr tries to protect her heart from getting too attached to Torg. She fears their time is limited and she'll be soon flying back to appeal her conviction. But after only a short time with the alien man, she realizes that his affection toward her is everything she never had back home. He can provide the life she never dreamed of, with a loving mate who sets her body on fire.
Unfortunately, our happy couple's bliss is short lived as evil lurks in the shadows. Jealous aliens and assassins threaten Starr and Torg's lives, not to mention the backlash when their tribe discovers the reason Starr was really ousted from her planet. No one is safe and who can be trusted?
This was a quick and easy read for me. I found myself immersed from the first page and invested in Starr's happiness early on. Then when I met Torg, I fell in book love. Watching him anxiously awaiting his mate was adorable and I loved every time we got to see things from his perspective. He was such a great hero. Brave, sensual, understanding, thoughtful. Great combination, plus some sexy horns. The love scenes between our couple were scalding hot, too.
I must say that the plot twist definitely surprised me. Everything was going well and then--bam! I hadn't expected the story to go in that direction. Things got very serious, in a hurry. But even though there was more downtime in the first half and more action in the second, I was never once bored by the story. I didn't want to put it down.
In closing...
I'm hoping we'll get to see more Dakonian love stories in the future! Four suns!
