April's life is about to change in a big way. In many ways that she could never even guess. While she expects her boyfriend is about to propose to her, she is unaware that her fate is already sealed. Her destiny lies beyond this world, serving among the Angels.

Damian has been watching over April for all of her life. He knows everything there is to know about her. As her Guardian, he has saved her life many times to help her survive until her thirtieth birthday. After that, she will move on and he will finally be rid of the woman who makes him want to toss aside the rules and make her his.

But April's thirtieth birthday doesn't come. A tragedy changes the course of the future and soon April is left with a decision to make. Damian also must choose whether to continue living his sad and lonely life or take a chance on forever, again.

I think this is the very first time I've read a book with angels in it that didn't involve battles with demons. It was actually refreshing to see the conflict arise that had nothing to do with "evil" as much as the struggles with the basic human condition. Depression, self-harm, cheating, and mortality are all themes present in the story.

As for our couple, both faced their own internal demons like denial and resentment of past hurts. It was a struggle for each of them to deal with their new predicament. I think the author did a great job of portraying the emotions and thoughts that April and Damian had while coming to terms with their feelings for each other and uncertain futures. I was easily immersed in their story and may have teared up a little during April's first visit with her mother. *sob*

The reason I docked a half star was the whiplash I got from Damian's hot and cold behavior. I don't mind a bit of angst and back and forth. We all struggle with indecisiveness and miscommunication caused a lot of the problems presented between our couple. However, it does become a little repetitive after the first few times. When they had a moment of happiness, I grew to expect something to go wrong.

The romance was slow burning, but the chemistry was there from the beginning. I thought the love scenes were very well-rounded, showing the same amount of lust as affection. The ending was sweet and a little mushy but there was still a good amount of humor spread throughout the book.

In closing...
If you're a romance fan who likes angel themed stories, this one is for you! 4.5 suns!
