Deva has found herself in a bit of a pickle. After becoming homeless and nearly penniless, she happens upon a vacant residence. In order to move into the villa, she has to pose as the surprise wife of the absent owner. And just as she makes herself at home, the missing man comes around.
Rupert is shocked to discover that he already has a wife. A fake one who seems to have moved right into his vacation home and won over his godmother and friends. But his plan was to marry a different woman. As a way to atone for her crime, Deva offers to help him win over this other woman. But when Rupert finally gets his ideal woman right where he wants her, he must decide if she's really the woman he loves.
Wow. I am so impressed with this story! The way it was written showed the struggles on both sides as our couple fought against their self-doubt and old habits in order to grow both separately and together. The chemistry was immediate and only got hotter as the story went along.
To be honest, this novella started off a little shaky for me because I wasn't sure how to root for a woman who conned her way into a home by pretending to be the owner's wife. I also wasn't sure about a man who wanted to marry another woman who he felt no real emotion for. Together, these two were a duo of broken hearts who need each other to mend.
Their bantering was adorable and soon that tension turned to passion that could not be matched any better than if cupid had shot them himself. But the elephant in the room was still the woman Rupert originally wanted to marry. Deva upholds her end of the bargain but at an expense to her emotional sanity. I think I went through every emotion while reading this. I was nervous, irritated, surprised, heartbroken, nervous (again), and left smiling.
In closing...
This is the last of the three novellas and I have to get my hands on the first two. For this one, five French suns!
