SynopsisDainy doesn't know that she is the lost Duchess of Jordinia, believed to have been assassinated fifteen years ago. Nor does she know that her uncle has implemented an illegal contest to seek her, offering her marriage hand as the reward!

Though at odds, three clashing rivals - including a noble giant, a forest dweller and a thieving rake - voyage together by woodland, prairie and sea to recover the lost royal, notwithstanding the assassins and spies at their tail.

Soon, young Dainy is swept into a comically complex romantic quadrangle as each suitor competes to capture her heart. Charmingly romantic and bursting with political intrigue, startling twists and vivid characters, readers of romance and fantasy alike will adore this original yet timeless tale of swashbuckling adventure and unlikely love.

Score! Yet another fantastic adventure by C.K. Brooke!

I read and enjoyed The Wrong Prince a couple of weeks ago. Like this one, it was a fantasy romance book with an adventurous plot and variety of characters, set in a faraway land. This book is similar but with a completely different cast of characters and new lands. My review for The Wrong Prince will post on the 16th (Friday).

This book is the first part of a duology, meaning the journey doesn't end here. There is one sequel to complete the story and I can't wait to read it!

Dainy is our duchess in disguise, who was saved from an impending assassination and left to be raised by two women who were not aware of her actual royal lineage. Thinking that the royal family has been extinguished, a rival ruler assumes control and keeps it for fifteen years.

Now a young woman, Dainy's identity is revealed when her rescuer decides to divulge his secret to Dainy's uncle, her only living relative. This uncle desperately wants to find Eludaine (Dainy), and decrees that the first man to bring Dainy to him will receive a handsome reward of gold and her hand in marriage!

Of course, this brings out a slew of men who want the prizes for many different reasons. But we follow three of them, in particular. One would prefer to take the money and run, another wants to marry the duchess, and a third just wants to right the wrongs that were done to Dainy's family.

Along the way, Dainy learns a lot about the world around her and herself. She grows, matures, and adapts. And she isn't the only one. The three men who accompany her, along with a mysterious fourth member added to the group, all learn to rely on one another and defy the odds against them.

This story was a non-stop venture, full of humor, mystery, friendship, romance, and I loved every bit of it. The next book takes our group on another journey and I can't wait to get my hands on it!

In closing...
A fantastic fantasy adventure with an entertaining cast of characters and creatures. Five suns!
