Raven is stuck in a tough position. She needs to get away from her controlling and abusive alpha, but she can't bear to leave her sister behind. So the plan is for her to leave and get help from the Reno wolf pack. Only, her car breaks down along the way and a stranger shows up to assist her. And he's not just any man. He's a werewolf too.

Luke knows this mysterious woman is keeping secrets, but leaving her stranded on the side of the road isn't something he can do. Helping her just might cause even more trouble for him when he learns about her situation. And getting closer to Raven also reveals something he's been desperate to find...she's his mate.

Unfortunately, this doesn't mean happily ever after for the pair. Raven's alpha doesn't believe in the traditional fateful mates and won't let her go without a fight. Luke isn't about to give up the other half of his soul that he's been searching for. The only way they can be together and save Raven's sister is if the cruel alpha is out of the way. But that's a dangerous mission of its own.

I really liked Logan in the previous book and Luke is his twin. We get to know him a bit in that story but we definitely get closer to him here. I may have squealed a little when I saw he was the one featured in this book, having not read the synopsis again before starting it. I'll also be reading the next book immediately after this and I'm keeping the characters in that one a surprise too.

Raven was a likable character with a good head on her shoulders. I'm coming to find that I like the way this author writes her heroines and heroes. Her men have flaws and fears, just like any other man would. Even with their paranormal abilities, they still let the occasional weakness show through, making them more believable and relatable. The women all seem to be intelligent and strong. I can get on board for this.

The plot was a little heavy with even more characters being introduced. I'm finally getting the hang of who everyone is and the underlying plot threads that tie the entire series together are becoming clearer. There is a good amount of action and suspense here. But our couple still had time together too. The romance in this one was a slower burn, yet it had several moments of steam in the bedroom (or wherever it occurred). It was a good read.

In closing...
I'm curious to see what comes next and I'm about to find out. 4.5 suns!
