SynopsisCaleb Hodgins is a lupine known to the Arkin City Pack as an easy going wolf with a carefree attitude. But after tragedy strikes because of what he is, he's left with a painful secret and the weight of grief hanging on his shoulders. Such heartache causes Caleb to swear he'll never seek companionship with a human woman again, and it's a plan that works well enough—until Emily Sterling comes to town.

When presented with the opportunity to take a long sought job in Arkin City, Emily quickly accepts, moving halfway across the country to live next door to her childhood friend, Joslyn Santiago-Hodgins. After years of keeping in touch long distance, she finally meets the people in Joslyn's life, and finds everyone easy to fit in with—that is, everyone except Joslyn's brother-in-law, Caleb.

Emily has no idea why he's so put off by her, and his dismissive behaviors become increasingly disappointing as her attraction to him turns into undeniable interest. Yet she also doesn't realize just how quickly her fun loving attitude and playful wit draws Caleb in, reminding him of his painful secret and his drive to prevent history from repeating itself.

But a case of missing lupines sweeping the southern states may put Emily in danger simply by her unwitting association with the Arkin City Pack, giving Caleb more than one reason to protect her. In the process, the gears of bonding start to turn, and there's nothing he can do to stop it, forcing him to face his fear of revealing the truth about what he is, and risk losing Emily for good.

Another great installment of The Crucible Series!

I could read these books every day. The paranormal world that Angela Colsin has created is so vast and filled with so many different supernatural species and characters. The possibilities of stories stemming from this world are practically endless.

Even though this book is about another lupine coupling, it is completely different than Blue Moon (book one of the series). If you are worried about deja vu or finding similarities--don't. This book stands out on its own with adorable characters and a unique plotline. And I am definitely happy to see another Hodgins boy find his mate.

Emily has just moved to Arkin City, a town that has strong supernatural roots and residents. All of this is unknown to Emily as she begins to settle in next to her best friend and plan for her new job. Soon, however, Emily finds herself in need of protection after a home invasion leaves her shaken and the town on alert.

Caleb doesn't want to be Emily's knight in shining armor. After a past relationship ended in tragedy, he's sworn off ever starting a relationship with a human, again. And even though Emily's scent tempts the lupine, he is determined to stay away from her before things can develop any further.

Unfortunately, Caleb finds that avoiding Emily isn't easy to do when she is quickly becoming a member of their extended family. Neither is ignoring his instinct to protect and bond with her. He just hopes that when the moment comes, Emily will accept what he is and he can keep her safe long enough to make her his.

The romance was angsty at first, then adorable. Even though the love scenes begin a little later in this book than some of the others, when it does happen, it's a really spicy read. I didn't want this book to end because then the wait begins for the next book to be released. Fingers are crossed that the wait is a short one.

I love reading about Arkin City and even though this book didn't contain as many supernatural creatures as other books, we got to reconnect with several characters from earlier books. I also have an inkling that we might see Sara's story being told in the future. The lady needs love, too! *wink*

In closing...
A paranormal romance series that is still steaming along and leaving me smiling! 4.5 suns!
