SynopsisFalsely accused of the murder of her best friend, Kayla Jenkins is on the run for her life. She ends up lost in dark, snowy woods off some backcountry road in the middle of nowhere. Frightened and colder than she’s ever been in her life, she almost thinks she’s hallucinating when a warrior on a white steed saves her.

In all his years as the sheriff of Peak Town, Colorado, Jake Ryder has never come across a half-frozen woman alone in the woods. She’s terrified…and lying to him, yet something about her calls to him on a primal level.

Even with her trust of law enforcement lower than the harsh temperature, Kayla finds it difficult to keep her secrets hidden from the kind and far too handsome sheriff. But as her faith in Ryder grows, she not only risks the real murderer finding her, but losing the one thing she has searched for her whole life and only just found…love.

Jake Ryder, how happy I am to see you find your woman!

Music Choice happy one direction excited reactions GIF

This is number three in this series and I've hoped to see our resident Sheriff meet his match since the first time his character popped onto the digital screen. My wish finally came true in this book where we follow Ryder as he rescues a mysterious damsel in distress and tries to help her out of her predicament. And boy is she in a tough situation.

Kayla is on the run. Wanted for the murder of her best friend, a heinous act that she did not commit, Kayla flees from her home in Chicago and somehow finds herself lost in Colorado. She's freezing her rear off and barely running on fumes when a certain handsome stud rides up on his horse and offers her assistance. Umm, yes please.

Ryder is curious about the woman who continues to lie to him. He doesn't believe her story about how she came to be on his land. He knows she doesn't have a case of amnesia like she claims. And he isn't about to let her leave until he gets down to the truth of what she's really hiding from. While his cop side is wary of the strange woman, his man side is soon smitten by her.

The pair might have great chemistry but Kayla is being chased by the real killer of her best friend, a dirty Chicago cop with connections and means to frame her for the murder. She wants to trust Ryder can help her but involving him in her troubles is dangerous for the both of them. Letting him into her heart and bed is just as risky. Even if they do manage to get her off the hook for murder, do the couple stand a chance at making this last forever?

Right off the bat, I liked Kayla and her drive to escape from the jerk cop chasing her. And he really was a bad guy. The chapters from his point of view gave me the chills. If you want a fluffy romance, this isn't the book for you. It's got some suspense, a little action, and a nasty villain you'll want to hate. The plot isn't overly complicated but it does move fairly quick.

As for the romance? Yum. Ryder was a thoughtful lover and Kayla might have been cautious at the beginning but once she opens up to him it's fireworks all the way to the end. I think this pair were a nice fit for each other. We also get to see a few glimpses of the couples from earlier books in the series which is fun. Lizzy and her silly words made me chuckle.

In closing...
I don't know where the series will go next but I have a good feeling about a certain FBI guy and a feisty lawyer chick. Now we just have to figure out how to get them to Peak Town so the sparks can fly! Five suns!
